One of the newish stickers placed at Dupont Circle has been defaced. I am eager to learn more about the motivations for people scratching at these stickers. In some cases I suspect it is simply a matter of standard practice to keep things tidy, though in those cases the stickers are usually completely removed. Examples like the above, where the sticker remains but has key portions scratched or blacked-out indicates problems with the message. Was it done by someone who supports Trump? Or perhaps someone who dislikes the strong language used in the text? Or just a person who believes this particular mechanism for protest (posting stickers on public signs, poles, etc) is inappropriate? Let me know if you have any insights!
